RYAN GILES will return to the Middlesbrough squad for tomorrow’s game at Stoke City, but Ben Doak remains a couple of weeks away from being back in action.

Giles was forced to sit out Friday night’s defeat at Bristol City because of illness, but the January loan signing recovered over the weekend and was able to train earlier today.

He will be part of the squad that travels to the bet365 Stadium tomorrow, although it remains to be seen whether he dislodges Neto Borges from the side that lined up Ashton Gate.

“None of the injured lads will be back, but Ryan has recovered from illness over the course of the weekend and he’s back in and around it, which is good,” said Carrick.

Jonny Howson and Riley McGree remain on the long-term absentee list, but Doak is approaching the end of his recovery period from a thigh injury.

The Liverpool loanee will not feature against Stoke and will also miss Saturday’s home game with Derby County.

However, he should be back in training at some stage next week, which could mean he is available for the trip to Swansea City on March 8.

“I don’t expect the injured lads to be back for the weekend either,” said Carrick. “They’re a little bit further away than that. It shouldn’t be too long after that though, maybe a week or two.

“We’re hoping that Ben will be in and around it in terms of training next week. We don’t want to put too much of a deadline on that.

“Everyone’s waiting to see when he’s fit, I get that, but we’ll have to wait and see. He’s not too far away now, so that’s good.”
